This contribution to the exhibition is intended to make the visitor aware that forest land, exploited with concern for its sustention and an increased use of durable wood products are measures that help to conserve natural stores of carbon which contribute to the stabilisation of the world climate threatened by the emission of carbondioxide. The raw product wood, constantly re-growing, points the way for the future in the matter of saving energy, reducing carbondioxide emission and preserving basic natural resources..
The efficacy of wood as a building material is demonstrated in particular bythe EXPO roof. It covers an area of 16,000 square metres near the Hermes Tower and will continue to be used by the German Trade Fair AG after the end of the world exhibition. Wood was chosen for this construction because it is the building material of the 21st century and reflects the main theme of EXPO better than any other.
The Wood Sales Promotion Fund (HAF) represents German Forestry Management at EXPO 2000. It is responsible for sales promotion measures in the industry.
