An over-sized glass whale glitters in the sunlight on the shores of the little lake in the EXPO park. It is 70 metres long, 30 metres high and 20 metres wide. Its ribs are wooden and covered by a roof of zinc. Below, the walls are transparent. The giant animal bends as if moving through the water: Through its gaping mouth, visitors enter the "Pavilion of Hope". This is a meeting place for young people. That is how it is defined by the exhibitors, YMCA and YWCA Germany, the Aid Programme World Vision and the German Protestant Alliance. Their motto: Welcome to the future. Visitors first watch an animated movie. Following this, they attend the exhibition "Windows of Hope", where street children and drug aid programmes are presented. The next room - the "Communication Island" - offers a fully equipped TV studio, prosecuted by a professional camera team.
