The UNO pavilion is built in the likeness of a snail's house, with just one variation from the real thing: this one is composed of three intertwined houses. Each snail's house represents one of the three themes, to which the UNO has dedicated its work since its very beginnings and especially since the Rio de Janeiro summit in 1992: humankind, nature and technology. The success of the principle task of the United Nations, to secure world peace, depends on satisfied people, intact nature and technology to ensure sustainable development.

For the Spanish pavilion designer, Luis Sarda, the snail's house symbolise the uniqueness and beauty of nature. Only by preserving nature can mankind survive. The United Nations' exhibition demonstrates that modern technology can assist mankind.
